the Microscope, the Magnifying Glass, and the Mirror
April 18, 2007 at 11:54 pm | In husband, marriage, wife | 2 CommentsWhat do you see when you look at your wife?
A microscope could reveal a number of things. A mole, hairs, or perhaps an unsightly blemish. It could also focus on a negative remark or a poor attitude. A magnifying glass could expose wrinkles, grey hairs, or an unfortunate scar. It could also exaggerate sarcasm or overemphasize an opinion. If you turned a mirror just right, you could catch an angle or a glimpse of something that she would have paid handsomely for you never to find out about her. She may even give you back the “pants in the family” for a week in the hope that the gyrations from your victory dance would give you amnesia.
With the right tools you could pick her apart. I mean you could really get to the bottom of proving to her that she should be honored that she was lucky enough to be chosen by a specimen such as yourself. After all…
“I’m a man who discovered the wheel and built the Eiffel Tower out of metal and brawn. That’s what kind of man I am. You’re just a woman with a small brain. With a brain a third the size of us. It’s science.” -Ron Burgandy 2004
I’ll wait a minute so you can wake up…
Welcome back! How about this instead. These tools of discovery that you have been given are being misused. That microscope you have is meant so that you can see into her heart. She has dreams and aspirations of what a husband and a marriage should be and that is where they are hidden. She has desires that control her emotions and that’s where they generate. She is expecting to be swept off her feet and that is where she is waiting. That magnifying glass is so that you can spend time enjoying her outstanding qualities. Her infectious smile. Her eyes like the pools of Heshbond. (don’t ask me… Songs of Solomon 7: 1-9) Her toes…whatever floats your boat! Believe me, I know what my wife has that sends my boat around the world and back again.
Now here is the M Night Shyamalan twisted ending. The mirror is supposed to be for you! Take a look at yourself and what do you see? Are you the kind of man that deserves this “Super Woman” you demand? Are you what she expects? Better yet, are you what YOU expect? Start fixing yourself. Work on being better at whatever. Earn Her!
Now put away the microscope and the magnifying glass before you get hurt.
